With regard to exchange, exchange in its native form (not pop3 server) is a bit
messy.
An OutLook client will establish communication initially with an Exchange
server on one or
two specific ports (I will have to hunt for which ones) and then responds on
other ports
(above 1024) at random to establish a communication path to the Outlook client.
This
makes it very difficult to establish a solid client/server link across a
firewall with
Exchange in its native mode of operation.
I can find the reference for this if anyone is interested.
