That sounds like the bare LF problem that's well known to cause troubles with clients. There are various plugins that block that sort of stuff, including both versions of Trash Finder (see http://www.rrsoftware.com/html/prodinf/tf/tf-main.html). There's a lot of malformed spam out there; you no longer have any choice but to block a lot of it at the mail server. The time when you could let anything through your server is long past, I fear.
