Was the one that failed you "primary" active directory? This would be the "first" machine in the domain. If so, you lost all your "global catalogs" that contain the user names. This error is bypassed by having multiple domain controllers that are global catalog servers.

There is a check box in the sites and services section to copy the global catalogs. You also need copy the FSMO files to the second machine. Refer to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/255504

If you do not have two global catalogs, I think you have to rebuild the domain and recreate all the users.

Hi,

One of our two Active Directory servers failed last week. The second is working OK.

Internal users can send send mail externally but not internally - get "user not valid" messages. Outsiders are also getting "user not valid" when they try to email us.

The line up is POP3s, SMTPDS, SMTPRCV ( latest beta), SCSM Filter, AVP antivirus, checkmx and trashfinder.

RCV panel User Database tab is set to "check the NT database" with the group name "IMS users"

The group exists in Active Directory and the group members are correct.

When I run Getusers to check the userlist I get "group not found" errors for both local and net.

The incoming R log is full of 550 messages

The incoming D log lists all the aliases and lists from the EMWAC IMS control panel; but not the users.

Everything was working OK until one AD server failed.

I have checked everything I can think of and restarted services and servers; but still the same errors.

What next?

David
