I've just sent out a new version of Trash Finder Pro. This version adds a
number of new filters, including:
   * An SPF filter; this detects mail with forged return addresses (which is
most of the incoming mail). If there is no SPF record, or the result is
inconclusive, TF Pro will make a guess based on the mail-to servers.
   * RBL filters. Some RBLs are too aggressive (Spamcop has been blocking
mail from IBM employees), but they can be used as a reason to trash and
hand-inspect mail. Also, if you use an external secondary server, you can
recheck the mail based on its real source.
   * HELO filters. Some spammers like to have their servers imitate yours.
If you don't allow sending outgoing mail from outside of your network,
blocking these imitations can get rid of a lot of spam. As above, you can
recheck the mail based on its real source.
   * A filter for mail with unresolvable URLs. A common trick to avoid
server IP filtering is for spam domains to fail to resolve until some time
after the spam is sent out. (The idea being that the recipients of the junk
will not read it for a while.) This filter prevents such mail from sailing
through TF.

A number of filters were improved, including the "empty message" filter
(which now triggers on messages that contain nothing but MIME headers) and
the "no text" filter (which will now not trigger if there is text anywhere
in the message). A number of new redirectors have been added.

Limited filtering masks also have been added. These allow setting which
filters will be applied (and which skipped) if various conditions occur:
From, To, and Subject patterns, SPF Pass results, and messages relayed from
the TF viewer.

And, as always, a number of bugs have been fixed.

As before, TF Pro is available by subscription of $50 per year; see
http://www.rrsoftware.com/html/prodinf/tf/tf-pro.html for more information.

Finder mailing list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]; send "Join trashfinder" to

P.S. We're planning a stand-alone version of TF that will work with any mail
server. So you'll be able to keep your TF settings if you move to another
mail server.
