Do you have SPF records set up for your domain? If you don't it might help.
The delaying is a technique to reduce spam. Spammers won't wait for a couple of [minutes|hours|days] to send a message, real mail servers will. With an SPF record, at least you have one level of legitimacy covered. Not sure what other algorithms they may be using to determine to delay delivery. I've seen delays to Hotmail on the order of <1h and that's _with_ long existing SPF records.
