There's a asoftware called Audio Hijack which boosts the sound of your speakers..but its not free...u need to purchase it... (Dont try and search for it on TORRENT - it's ill-legal :) ) Its quite nice...it boosts to a good listenable volume.
For watching movile i use VLC and boost the sound...
