Yesterday I was caught unawares. I had bought my new iMac 21.5" just two
weeks back and for the first time carried it with me to Wellingkars for my
Mind Management workshop for paraplegics. Imagine my distress when neither
the mouse nor the keyboard got activated. Several techie student also tried
their best and ultimately as participants were getting restless I took
refuge in a USB Mouse borrowed from one of the students, but since there was
no USB keyboard available, got frustrated since I could not even key-in my
password. Desperately used the power on and off on the keyboard and after a
lot of attempts it suddenly got recognised but despite several other
attempts the mouse was not recognized so I managed to carry forward with the
bluetooth keyboard and USB Mouse...

After returning the same problem manifested itself while on my work desk and
it took me nearly an hour before on an impulse I opened up the mouse battery
cabin, took out the batteries and put them in again. Hey presto .. both
keyboard and mouse got recognized.

What am I doing wrong and what is the best way of preventing such
experiences in the near future?
