assuming that you are doing everything else okay, then the problem could be an OSX Intel mismatch with PPC. The 24" iMac could be a PowerPC G5 machine.
The symptoms exhibited confirm the problem.It indicates that the OS is looking for an Intel processor and allied components but cant find it. KIndly note that: 1. if you load OSX on a PPC machine in target disk mode connected to an Intel machine using the the Intel machine's CD drive, the OS will install successfully but will simply not boot independently standing alone on the PPC machine (that is using the PPC - G5 logic board) . It may boot on the Intel machine if it the machine is connected in target disk mode. 2. If you have used an OEM install CD meant for Intel machines and try to use it on a PPC machine, you may have the similar problem. Suggest that you load the OS natively on the iMac using a retail Leopard DVD or if the optical drive is not available use an external drive through firewire or USB. Alternatively you could restore the OS that originally came with the machine using the original DVDs that came along with it (Tiger) and upgrade it to Leopard.
