Hi,

There are two ways of running Linux (Ubuntu or any other flavour) on Intel 
Macs. You can either use Boot camp or any virtualization software like Virtual 
Box or VMware etc. Virtual Box is a good choice as it is free to use and works 
well.

I have just recently installed Linux Mint (a variant of Ubuntu but more 
friendly for new users) on my MacBook Pro using Virtual Box.

You can download Virtual Box for intel Macs from this link
