Has anyone enabled normal macbook or macbook pro to use the usb superdrive. As one the internal drive is broken there is the option to buy the external drive but it is only supported by macbook air and macbook retina models.
I did some google search and came to the following article.
The necessary file is
“/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist”. If you are
running OS X 10.6.8 and above, the file should look similar to this…

In order to enable the SuperDrive simply add “mbasd=1″ between the tags. The
edited file should look like this…
