Prada Store Wrings Out By ERIC WILSON Published: January 26, 2006 .... It became one of Prada's most successful stores, but on Saturday night a fire that began in neighboring American Eagle Outfitters injured seven people, including six firefighters, and caused extensive water and smoke damage throughout the building. Bobbi Brown's first lipstick sample in her fourth-floor studio was spared, but not the early deliveries of the Prada spring collection.
The company has not determined the extent of its losses, but they appear to be substantial. "We're still in the process of letting everything dry out," said Melissa Skoog, a spokeswoman. The army of mannequins at the Broadway entrance was unharmed, but a wallpaper mural called "Guilt Incorporated" by the design studio 2x4 was damaged, and many of the store's video displays were destroyed. .... Ms. Skoog, the Prada spokeswoman, said she could not detail how much spring merchandise was affected. Prada had begun to sell some spring runway pieces and new preseason designs, like a white eyelet skirt for $1,675 and a group of khaki separates that may have survived by intelligent design: their water stains and frayed edges were deliberate. A sense of humor was also water resistant. Through an assistant in his Rotterdam office, Mr. Koolhaas relayed his condolences: "It's raincoats next season," he said. cont'd.... http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/26/fashion/thursdaystyles/26ROW.html?_r=1 _______________________________________________ in-enaction mailing list http://mail.architexturez.net/mailman/listinfo/in-enaction + Architexturez collaborative at http://portal.architexturez.org/
