An architect told the Cape High Court yesterday that he was "totally
taken aback" when LeisureNet's joint chief executives asked him for a
kickback on money the group was to pay him.

Architect Dawid Rabie was the first witness in the trial of Peter
Gardener and Rodney Mitchell, the now-defunct LeisureNet's CEOs, their
business associate Hans Moser, and Mitchell's wife Suzanne.

Rabie himself was arrested in July 2004, and appeared in court, but had
charges withdrawn after he promised to co-operate with the Scorpions.
