Available at the door only. (Ticket office opens at 7 pm.) Kartik Seshadri is generally acknowledged as the foremost disciple of world renowned sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar. Kartik began an illustrious career as a child prodigy, performing full-length solo recitals at the age of six. In 1974, he became a formal disciple of Ravi Shankar, and has had the distinct honor of performing with him in major concert halls in India, Europe, the Near East, Japan, Mexico, and the United States, including Carnegie Hall in New York City. In the U.S., Kartik has performed at major music festivals including the First International Music Festival sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution, the Festival of Indian Music, and the year-long Festival of India. Recent reviewers have described Mr. Seshadri's musicianship in the following glowing terms: "unfalteringly and vividly expressive" (The Statesman, New Delhi); "amazing grasp of raga forms, portrayed with felicity and grace" (The Hindu, Madras); "when he played this raga the audience was almost on the verge of tearful acknowledgement of Kartik's genius" (The Deccan Chronicle, Hyderabad); "truly one of the finest representatives of the Indian tradition available to serious music lovers in the United States" (Carol Robertson, Past President, Society for Ethnomusicology). Arup Chatterjee is recognized today as one of the most outstanding tabla players of the younger generation. Arup began his training at the age of six from his father, the eminent tabla player Shri Pankaj Chatterjee. He later became a premier disciple of the world renowned tabla virtuoso Pandit Shankar Ghosh of the Farukabadh gharana (style). An affiliated artist with All India Radio and Doordarshan Television, Arup records and performs frequently for the Indian broadcasting network. He has accompanied some of India's leading musicians, and has recently completed tours of the U.K., U.S., and Canada. Mr. Chatterjee has recently produced a CD of solo tabla performance. DIRECTIONS:: Take I-5 south. On approaching Eugene, take exit 194B (I-105). Follow the signs to exit 1 "City Center." Take the City Center/Coburg Road/University of Oregon exit and again follow the signs to City Center/Downtown Mall. When approaching the bridge to cross the Willamette River, stay in the left lane and follow signs to "University of Oregon." That exit will merge into Broadway St., which quickly becomes Franklin Blvd. Immediately get into the right lane. Turn right at Patterson St. and go south on Patterson to 17th Street. Turn left on 17th. After a few blocks the street ends at Alder, and you will see the UO School of Music ahead of you on a hill. Park in the converted tennis courts between Alder and the School of Music.
