Good message.  Management from the top should be taking care of getting 
opinions from the smart people, but I guess here in open source world we can 
just take the bull by the horns as well.

When it comes to big sweeping features like package management, I think 
official opinion polls need to be done.  For instance: a topic where each 
person gets one post for their opinion on the topic.
