I think you're right. Compounded by all the trademark & similar issues,
isn't it?
Which begs the question... what should it get replaced with?
I still like the notion of using lunar imagery in a few places - the moon
being the most obvious alternate celestial body.
I figure that using the word "open", similar to what is in the middle of
the opensolaris.org front page, is probably out - though "open(2u)" might
be fun in the context of a "start button".
Unfortunately the state of indiana doesn't lend itself well to a
horizontal button... I like maps like this one -

- with the large number of interstates ("crossroads") running through here
highlighted - even though this example is not particularly great. (and it
is missing at least one major interstate, along with pieces of a couple
others)...
"Crossroads" might make for good conceptual branding, itself... e.g.
