As an update on this topic, you'll need to read a few blogs on the subject.

We looked at this awhile ago as we had a few workstations with 256MB RAM. SXCE
loaded on those workstations and I think my copy of Martux loaded on my SPARC
workstation with 256MB RAM. So, I know this was my minimum requirement for most
graphical workstations.

Well, I decided to go back to 128MB RAM as the minimum for older laptops. A few
of my OLD laptops are between 64MB-128 MB RAM which is realistic for pre-Y2000
computers/laptops. Most of these laptops have CD readers, but were decent
computers for testing.

I think from an engineering and scientific standpoint, there should be some
consideration in current OpenSolaris distros that install on low memory
computers (i.e. 32 MB RAM minimum??). This might be an issue but I think there
should be some interest in it (see: Belenix, Martux, Nexenta).

A text/graphical installer concept that can install an
Indiana-compatible/OpenSolaris-based distro to a hard drive if you have >=32 MB
RAM (minimum). This may be worth it for old-time laptop users.
