Guys I have found the status changes as soon as you open up 'Users and Groups'. Example: I run a tool that uses gksu it just starts up no problem, next access 'Users and Groups' to check privileges. The next time you run gksu app it will prompt for password as it should. Once the status change is in effect all operates as normal. Initialization must hang somewhere until 'Users and Groups' is accessed (I'd look at shadow)
