Yes, I can use e-mail just fine from indiana.
In looking back through you're thread, you have a name resolution
problem (at the very least).
How are you resolving names to ip addresses (dns, nis, nis+, something
else)? If you're trying to use dns, then you need to make sure that:
a) /etc/resolv.conf exists and has the correct information in it
b) /etc/nsswitch.conf has a line like the following:
hosts: files dns
