I haven't contributed to open solaris at all, so I really have no say-so in
this discussion, but personally, I think this is a non-issue. People that
choose to use open solaris should do so with the mindset that open solaris
is not linux or any other operating system except a variant of solaris.
Either way you go, somebody will be unhappy with the decision be it a
solaris professional or a linux professional. Doing so is adding
complication that isn't really going to help decrease the learning curve by
any means worth considering, cause like I said, a solaris guy is probably
going to expect it be done X way and a linux guy will probably expect it to
be done Y way and the rest of us will just familiarize ourselves with
whatever method is chosen and move on with our lives.
