Such functionality is eventually planned for the RSS/Atom feed that the 
depot server now provides.  However, it's at least several months off in 
the grand scheme of things.

The main reason that the feed is useful now is because it clearly marks 
*new* packages in the repository as being "Added".  Since we seem to add 
new packages almost every time there is a new build, this is useful for 
someone to find out about new software that wasn't previously available 
and that an update notification wouldn't let you know about (e.g. scim 
packages).
