Rummaging around on defect.opensolaris.org got me to http://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=2368 http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6643143 Using the workaround mentioned there, I tried setting timing_flags=0x1; in /kernel/drv/ata.conf, and that has given me a working system.
