For 2008.11, we've decided to split off a separate repository that
contains the released versions and associated other software packages
(like OpenOffice, NetBeans, etc.) as well as publish a development
version. Each of these has a distinct URL:

  - the release version, at

    http://pkg.opensolaris.org/release/

  - and the development version, at

    http://pkg.opensolaris.org/dev/

More concretely, a new version of the OS won't be delivered to the
release/ URL until 2009.next becomes available; the dev/ URL will see
regular intermediate build deliveries as was the default between May
  and November.

These URLs are active now. At present, http://pkg.opensolaris.org,
the release/ URL, and the dev/ URL all point at the same repository.
  After 2008.11, release/ and dev/ will have divergent content;
pkg.opensolaris.org/ will be equivalent to release/. Some time after
that, and following an additional announcement,
  http://pkg.opensolaris.org won't be a repository URL.

You can change now, either using the "Settings/Edit Repositories..."
dialog in packagemanager, or by using the set-authority subcommand of
pkg(1). (All release candidates are connected to the release/ URL by
default, so you'll need to make this change on newly installed
systems, if you want to be on the development version.)

Concerns, questions, and comments are welcome.
