I have to believe there's more to it than that; surely I have to svcadm
as Milan notes, and then I have to do some
selection of domain, and potentially servers, etc. I recall some
nonsense about manually creating directories in /var/yp, etc. that NIS
experts just rattle off, but that I've never done manually.

I can go become an expert on NIS client setup, but I wanted to be
certain we had not yet solved this problem in OpenSolaris where the
assumption is that name service is DNS. Do we similarly have no way to
select, say, LDAP?

If we have not, it seems that at least a step-by-step guide for non-DNS
users would be nice to have created since this problem was noted with
the OS approach. Network connectivity is pretty much a stopper, even
more so with the OS approach of "slim install with packages later".
