Actually, we are planning to make basic name service configuration (including nis and ldap) part of the location profile in nwam phase 1. Please refer to http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/nwam/p1spec/Location_Spec/. Duckwater would undoubtedly make this task easier for us, but we need to do something in this space as soon as possible, as this discussion makes painfully clear. -renee
