After reading this beautiful piece shared by Dalbara ji and the comments before me I have feel I must write this long price: First, I begin by thanking Dlabara ji profusely for sharing this beautiful piece. It must be shared widely, especially with those who project Islam as inferior to Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism or other religions and chooses to emphasize the negatives of those who Talibanize (not just the Talibanis) Islam. The following may not be what some of my friends or yours want to hear, but I must state this. Those who continue to project their religion as superior to Islam and project it in a negative manner cause much more mindless destruction than the Taliban and help foster more fundamentalism. We must recall here who funded and made Taliban the monster it has grown into-not the local Islamic people, but the very people who continue to fund and facilitate the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and African nations to serve their own capitalists greed and their corporate media which has now overtaken our local media continues to project the negative aspects of Islam and influence even good people who have chosen to comment here. We need to stop think of humanity as `they' and `us', except of course the powerful nations and greedy corporates and irresponsible coporate media -I can not bring myself to align with `them". We must all weed through their propaganda at all levels. In this case, I ask those who have commented here to rethink the view that `they" (i.e. Muslims) make their women into `breeding machines' or `divorce women at one instant' and that `we' (i.e. non Muslims) are somehow superior/better than `them' and `our' god or spiritual head is more gender equality oriented and superior than `theirs' or that of other religions. Every religion has its negatives and positives. If we look at statistics, they may actually show that the divorce rates in the religion I was born into (hinduism) or perhaps christianity are rising and perhaps even higher percentage wise than in Islam today and that violence against women exists in the homes of many Hindus, Christians as well as in the homes of Sikhs. No religion can claim superiority over the other where gender equality is concerned, including Hinduism or Catholicism. Ancient religious tenets alone however, good they may be do not make one religion superior. As Mai ji points out, it is how they are practiced in reality and by the large majority of followers. The large majority of muslims are not subscribers to Taliban's edicts, but will become if marginalized and hated. Regardless of the religion, continued maligning by even the more loving and caring amongst us of another religion, can transform even the more spiritual and equitable religions to ones that are inhumane-this is true of Hinduism and other religions represented by those who have commented here. Let us not fall prey to the propaganda of fundamentalists, the corporate media or the powerful governments and greedy capitalists who want to control the oil in Islamic nations. Let us educate ourselves and our children to not malign Islam or any other religions for all have many good aspects to offer us and teach our children to become more humane. A few bad eggs do not make the rest of the practitioners of the religion or an entire country evil."
