Kalonji is Urdu/Hindi name of Karinjeerakam [കരിഞ്ചീരകം] in Malayalam, looks 
like black sesame (karutha ellu) but not the same. In Kerala not very common in 
use except ayurvedic (krishnajira) medicine.
Botanical name is Nigella sativa and in Arabic it is called Habbet as-suda 
(Habba Souda) and in bengali Kalo jira. Market name is Onion seed, falsely 
called Black Cumin also.
