For clinching the Identification certain other features are also required
like number of stamens ovary pattern ovules or even the pollens.I think this
is too much for an internet group and especially for memebers like majority
of us who are not botanists but may be I will call them as amateurs.
After searching for your query in "Flora of Maharashtra state" I could
gather following information.
Above plants are from Acanthaceae family.
Looking at the key classifying the different Genuses, the immediate
distinguishing character............is
a)Pollen grains ellipsoid
i)Bands on pollen grains punctate
Bands on pollen grains wavy-Mackenziea
Bands on pollen grains not wavy - Nilgirianthus
ii)Bands septate
iia)Flowers bracteolate - Pleocaulis
iib)Flowers ebracteolate - Carvia
*Nilgirianthus *is used as synonym of *Strobilanthes*
*Pleocaulis ritchei* is synonymous and probably new name of *Strobilanthes
sessilis*
The Genus Nilgirianthus has 8 species described in the book out of
which *N. reticulatus
* has two stamens as distinguishing character.I couldn't find the local name
Mal karvi or Topli Karvi in the book.
I have not gone into these details while observing the flowers. If anybody
is interested one can search accordingly. If someone knows exactly which
species is found where is welcome to share his views.
