This is to say the least, the most arrogant act on the part of the applicants to ask people to affix their signature for a cause the remificaations of which have hardly been told to the prospective signatories. Neem of course is known to everybody, but the other two trees are no known byu the native names to those who dont belong to Gujarat. What are those trees and what their econonomic significance is not known to us. Also the rationale behind allowing cutting the trees has not been fully explained. Even the botanical names of the trees have not been mentioned. After naming the three species, "etc" has been used, which is like taking everybody for a ride. How do the sponsors expect that others would sign blindly for a cause the details of which are not known to them? I would really request that this type of activity should be taken after taking the proposed signatories into full confidennce, and after making them aware of pros and cons of the grounds of petition. Lastly, I hope that the Chairman BNHS's ok has been taken before issuing such an appeal. I am sory but sometimes there is a clash between various interests in a proposed action, and in that case the plus and minus poiints have to be weighed against each other.
