This beautiful flower is native to Manipur, among other places. A
Manipuri friend of mine tells me that there is a beautiful poem in
Manipuri on this flower (called Melei Leishna). A few lines go as:

Melei Leishna nongjum pal
Kadambadi leinungshi
Leirang leichal khangdana mangkhigadaba Pamuida!

roughly translated (by my friend) as:

Oh beautiful and fragrant Melei Leishna
In spite of your beauty and fragrance
My heart rues at your fate
You will be lost without becoming the pride of a bouquet!

   Cheers!
