Hi Neil, Am i making a mistake bet. smilax and dioscorea? I have sent another mail of Smilax (according to me ). If u zoom that pic. u will see prickles and alternate shiny leaves and of course long tendrils. i tried to compare the flower buds of dioscorea in my pics with Shrikant's book.
