I knew it as bitter gourd. Is it also known as bristle gourd?
Moreover, there are different types of karela, one not bitter- M.
cochinchnensis (kakrol or bhat karela),
M. dioica - chhota bitter gourd or Jangli karela or Uchchhe (Beng) and
the other M. charantia- real karela (not corolla). The last two plants
look almost alike. Can any one suggest how to distinguish them from
leaves?
