Hello friends, In the first place who is this Rishabh? In my opinion he is like the proverbial frog living in a pond and thinking that it is the world. It is not only in the cities that the trees are being cut. It is being cut in large tracks in the periphery of every forest. For example, some years back one local politician living at the edge of a forest selling about 1 acre of his land. He used his influence and sold it to the panchayath at Sultan Bathery. The panchayath was at that time controlled by one political party who wanted to create a vote bank and divided the land into 3 cents plot and gave it free to a lot of people. The result is that these poor people needed firewood and started going into the forest for it. After sometime the underbrush had vanished and they started going deeper. When it became more difficult, they would girdle smaller trees which would dry up and they would use it as firewood. This is still going on. I had spoken to the wild life warden at the time but nothing happened. If not for our environmentalists, we would be worse off. regards Yazdy Palia.
