Allamanda violacea of Gardener (1844) is a synonym of A. franchetii A. DC.
(1844), wheras A. violcacea of Linn (1771) is perfectly valid distinct
species. I think we should impress upon all to check the name of author when
comparing synonyms. An example of this confusion we faced in discussion of
Phyllanthus fraternus and P. amarus. I would urge Garg ji and managers of
Flowers of India to start citing the name of author (plus year of
publication) for names and identifications to be meaningful, otherwise they
will create a lot of confusion, when these two databases become more
popular. There are thousands of such examples where nomenclature, if not
understood properly could create confusion. Our 'Ber' fruit is correctly
Zizyphus mauratiana Lamk, 1789 with Z. jujuba Lamk, 1789; whereas Z. jujuba
Mill., 1768 is a distinct species. The synonym for Z. mauratiana Lamk, 1789
is Z. jujuba Lamk, 1789 (non Mill., 1768). Such things may look difficult in
the begining, but are essential in the long run
