Sorry am not a botanist and may have applied wrong terminology here:-)

However, would still like to know how these fungus grows, why such
colors, thickness of that brown stuff- does it have a purpose etc.

Just a lay person asking this question- I never did learn this in the
school syllabus so the curiosity still persists
