Surajit ji,

You are right, this is *Bacopa monnieri* (L.) Pennell [ Synonym *Herpestes
monnieria* (L.) Kunth as you found in Bengal Plants by Sir David Prain].
The supporting characters which are found in your photographs for
confirmation of this species are: creeping habit, obovate, oblong or
spathulate ( spoon-like) leaf lamina, entire leaf with obtuse apex, long
pedicelled flower, purple tinge present within the corolla tube, presence
of 4 didynamous stamens included within the corolla tube and white colored
flower.

In this species the diagnostic features are entire leaves, sub-equal
corolla lobes which are generally uncommon in Scrophulariaceae members.

This marshy herb is succulent when fresh, little bitter in test and very
popular memory enhancer as prescribed in Ayurveda. It is known as “*Brahmi
shak*” in Bengali. People usually eat this herb as making *pakora* or fried
simply in clarified butter (ghee).

Thanks & Regards,

Sukla
