Eulalia quadrinervis, though the number of racemes are much more. This
species is still under investigation. Chakori is a volcanic formation with
granite at 2000m altitude in Pithoragarh district. This offers a wide range
of idiosyncratic species, much different from the surrounding vegetation.
There are several species in a small plateau of around 5 sq.km which are
unique and not found in the rest of the district. The highest record of
Dimeria ornithopoda is from this place. Several plants of peninsular India
are found in this small area of the Himalayas. Someone can do a detailed
study of this area as you may find several missing distributional links
between Himalayas and peninsular India. The plateau has moist areas and
small streams flowing here and there on the granitic rocks and hence home
to several semi-aquatic species like Utricularia, Eriocaulon, etc. not very
common elsewhere in the Himalayas. This place is being destroyed by
construction of resorts and hotels as it is the best place to view the
entire range of snow peaks of the Kumaon Himalayas. If someone can make an
attempt to study the flora and fauna of this plateau, it can be proposed as
an ecosensitive zone where no construction activities should take place.
