Nidhan Sir, I too want to know the differences between the two species. I am doubly confused, if not more.
If i take FoC is the VED-VAKYA yours is not *Sphagneticola trilobata*(Linnaeus) Pruski.<http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=242435001>Because- 1. flowers have more than 8 ray florets 2. FoC is silent on position of capitula. Neither it has illustration (though seems to be very common, for ornamental + escape). But the same FoC equates it with *Silphium trilobatum* Linnaeus. I found one herbarium from The Linnean Society, showing axillary head - http://www.linnean-online.org/10864/ Can it be *W. chinensis* (Osbeck) Merrill. or *Sphagneticola calendulacea*(Linnaeus) Pruski<http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=250097974>? No, if FoC is VED-VAKYA - 1. heads are axillary as per FoC illustration - http://www.efloras.org/object_page.aspx?object_id=121783&flora_id=2 2. FoC equates it with *Verbesina calendulacea* Linnaeus. I found a herbarium, again from Linnean Society, showing terminal head - http://www.linnean-online.org/10523/ 3. We have our own "Indian Medicinal Plants" illustration - http://plantillustrations.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=162200 !!! 4. Please also check - http://plantillustrations.org/species.php?id_species=1072567, (specially Hortus Indicus Malabaricus - http://plantillustrations.org/illustration.php?id_illustration=123264) One more site for *Verbesina calendulacea* - http://ww2.bgbm.fu-berlin.de/herbarium/Access.cfm?Col=4&IsoCode=all&Fam=all&SubColl=all&Genus=Verbesina&FullNameCache=Verbesina%20calendulacea Two more sites for *Sphagneticola trilobata* (L.) Pruski - - http://swbiodiversity.org/seinet/taxa/index.php?taxon=Complaya%20trilobata - http://keys.trin.org.au/key-server/data/0e0f0504-0103-430d-8004-060d07080d04/media/Html/taxon/Sphagneticola_trilobata.htm I skip Bengal Plants, F. I. and Fl. Br. Ind. My questions are - 1. Who is/are correct? 2. Is/are someone/somebodies misleading the world? I will be waiting for experts' views. This might help me to determine my posts. Thank you. Regards, surajit On Sun, May 12, 2013 at 12:21 PM, J.M.
