It is S.costus (=S.lappa) the costus root plant. Literature indicates that it is not known in wild but cultivated in Western Himalaya. The original wild populations were known to exist in J&K and Himachal Pradesh. In Uttarakhand it is cultivated in many places and also introduced in forest nurseries. DSRawat Pantnagar
