Dear Alok ji, The very success of pharmaceutics lies in formulating medicines using pure & AUTHENTIC drugs. Here morphology and taxonomy play major role in providing correct identity of plants for plant based formulations. Hence, the latter two subjects are basis for various allied fields including the former one and all are interlinked. Correct identity of drugs is crucial now as hundreds of adulterants and unauthenticated substitutes are casually being traded in the botanical drug markets in India. As over 90 per cent of people in India still use plant based drugs for treating various ailments, using correct plant for preparing life saving drugs becomes very essential.
With this point we stress that taxonomy and morphology should form an integral part in the curriculum of pharmaceutics and the stakeholders should be provided with adequate training in these fields. -- With regards R.
