The photographs show habit and male catkins of *S. tetrasperma* Roxb. The
male catkins are much larger than those of its closely allied *S.
ichnostachya*.

Two species of *Salix* are however reported from Karnataka. One is S.
tetrasperma and the other is S. ichnostachya. Both appear very similar in
the field and shared many common features as both these species belong to
the sect. Tetraspermae. Their blooming season is also same i.e.
October-December. A key to the species is presented below:

A. A. Stamens 5-10; ovary stipitate, glabrous; capsules ovoid
...........................
*S. tetrasperma*

A'. Stamens 4-6; ovary sessile or rarely subsessile,

             densely pubescent; capsules
subglobose..................................................... *S.
ichnostachya*
