 Beautiful photographs !!. The snake is the Common Vine Snake / Green Whip 
Snake [Ahaetulla nasuta] and the insect is a Cicada.

A carpet of white flower heads similar to that of Kas plateau was observed in 
one of the inner forest areas of Mahabaleshwar Nov 2009
At least two species of Eriocaulon are visible in the picture along with Some 
Utricularia and Murdannia and Exacum species.
That area was very interesting with many species in small area. We spotted a 
vine snake(Don't know the exact species) also in the area along with Siccada 
like insect which was making continuous noise.
