I would like to know the KEY to 'bottlebrush' tree. A question remains unresolved <http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1353275/#b>! Inadequate info can be found at http://www.anbg.gov.au/callistemon/. Perhaps leaves of several species contain essential oil - http://www.researchgate.net/publication/261711543_Essential_oil_composition_from_leaves_of_Eucalyptus_camaldulensis_Dehnh._and_Callistemon_viminalis_originated_from_Malaysia .
Perhaps - 1. *C. phoeniceus* have erect spike. 2. The two most commonly cultivated species are (i) *C. vimnalis <http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/Plants%20of%20Upper%20Newport%20Bay%20(Robert%20De%20Ruff)/Myrtaceae/Callistemon%20viminalis.htm>* with pendulous branches, leaves 6 inches & tend to grow at the ends of long hanging branches; each flower sessile in axil of deciduous floral leaf (ii) *C. citrinus <http://nathistoc.bio.uci.edu/Plants%20of%20Upper%20Newport%20Bay%20(Robert%20De%20Ruff)/Myrtaceae/Callistemon%20citrinus.htm>* with 1-3 inches leaf and terminal spike. I think it is *C. vimnalis.* Thank you Regards On Wed, Jul 16, 2014 at 6:06 PM, J.M.
