This looks like what is known as KALO=KOCHU <https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!topic/indiantreepix/lA8GG6Ku6gc> , *Colocasia esculenta* (L.) Schott, in our area. They do grow in ditches, pond-side, along streams <https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/indiantreepix/yMI0vu7iHDE>. But, if leaves are shiny/glossy/polished it is unlikely to be *Colocasia esculenta* (L.) Schott.
