Dear Tamil-knowing friends, ... would like to get the name "katampam" of *Sigesbeckia orientalis *in native script. It could be கதம்பம் - not sure.
This plant is distributed throughout tropics - perhaps naturalized in many parts of India - native range seems obscure ... NPGS / GRIN <http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bin/npgs/html/taxon.pl?70728> The Tamil name *katampam* seems to be a popular name for this plant - it is borrowed by other languages. For instance: 1) in Maharashtra, it is कटंपू katampu (ref: The Gazetteer Department - महाराष्ट्रातील वनस्पतीशास्त्र आणि वनसंपदा <http://cultural.maharashtra.gov.in/english/gazetteer/Vansampada/PDF/271-546.pdf> ) 2) in UP, it is katampam (ref: Diversity and distribution of aromatic plants in forests of Gorakhpur division, U.P., India <http://researchtrend.net/bf22/6%20NN%20TRIPATHI.pdf>) Regards.
