Zanthoxylum is represented by following 4 species in Uttarakhand: 1) Z.acanthopodium which is an erect shrub or tree; petiole and rachis are always winged 2) Z.armatum which also have distinctly winged rachis and petioles. 3) Z.oxyphyllum with wingless petiole and rachis; climbing or scandant shrub, evergreen, flowers in dense umbellate terminal and axillary clusters. 4) Z. rhetsa which is a tree and found upto 600m altitude only. Considering this the plant in discussion should be Z.oxyphyllum. If not then it is an addition to Flora of Uttarakhand. Flora of India vol-4 page376-391 has the details of all species of Zanthoxylum found in India. If you have specimens check for revurved prickles on lower side of rachis. Leaflets are crenate to glandular serrate along margins as mentioned in Flora of India and Osmaston (1927). DSRawat Pantnagar
