This is locally called as 'Shiv ling beeja' in Kannada and 'Siva linga kaai'
in Tamil. Botanically known as *Diplocyclos palmatus* (Cucurbitaceae).

If you observe the seed (after removing the fruit pulp) you will see a mini
'Shivling'. And you will be knowing the story of Lord Shiva and Padmasura.
In that Lord Shiva took shelter inside the fruit of this plant to save
himself from Padmasura.
