   - 1 to 2 inch long spike
   - spikes not conspicuously bracteate in upper part (or with narrow small
   bracts)
   - linear to linear-lanceolate leaves, over 0.5 inch long
   - should be similar to

There is one *H. strigosum* var. *brevifolia* (

featuring leaves under 0.5 inch long (ref. BP / Prain, FBI). This species
