Thank you Surajit for pointing me to this list. I guess we could begin by looking at the geographical distribution of the species and shortlist the ones for my area/altitude (advanced search on BSI page should work http://efloraindia.nic.in/efloraindia/viewAdvanceSearchPage.action <http://efloraindia.nic.in/efloraindia/viewAdvanceSearchPage.action>, but somehow on my browser I couldn’t get it to work). Of course there could still be a few to choose from (Collett lists five from Shimla).
Following Collett, I thought the specimen I was seeing was closer to D. glabra but since I am a non-botanist too, I seek expert opinion on this. It is of course always possible too that an odd species from here is not well documented and hard to identify with the help of photographs.
