Dear Sir, The nomenclature of Phoenix sylvestris is a difficult nut for me over 2 years. This species was originally proposed by Linneanus as Elate sylvestris and later Roxburgh transferred this to Phoenix viz. P. sylvestris. The type was based on Rheede's Kattu eethanl in his Hortus Malabaricus. But Roxburgh described another plant instead in his Flora Indica. This made the problem so complecated. Now we are going to raise an epitype for the species and I do hope we can solve the mystery shortly. Until then we can silent about this issue.
