Dear ALL - Spandan, the bip, a web based portal aimed at building biodiversity inventory by people was launched on Tuesday, 23rd February 2010. Accessible at http://www.spandan-bip.org/, Spandan, the biodiversity inventory by people is conceived as the citizens movement with aim to publish 100’s of millions of biodiversity observation records during 2010, International Year of Biodiversity (IYB). A promotional video featuring 7 years old Puneite Ms. Maitri Vishwas Chavan, who is currently based in Copenhagen was also released over YouTube (http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQY1866Vz-U).
World Nature Institute (WIN), a Pune, India based global NGO has conceived and developed Spandan, the bip to facilitate citizens to share biodiversity observations, in such a manner that these could be used for scientific analysis and forecasting purposes.
